A city with dozens of green space and waterways, London has a vast range of running routes to choose from. Whether you’re training for 5kMay or going on a weekday jog — why not try somewhere new, go a bit further from your local neighbourhood and grab a Zipcar.
Here’s our top 8 spots.
1. Battersea Park
It’s a no brainer really! Battersea Park is unquestionably one of South London’s most picturesque green spaces and makes for a great running route.
The park provides an abundance of running routes, allowing you to plan a quick 5k, or push yourself with a longer 10k. On the east side of the park, there are even a couple of opportunities to go off piste and dabble with some trail running.
2. Hampstead Heath
It’s a classic, we know! But, let’s be honest, it’s a classic for a reason. It has a variety of routes, but be prepared for some inclines!
Aside from that, Hampstead Heath’s stunning views of the city skyline makes it one of the best running routes in London. And in summer you can even cool down with an outdoor swim!
3. Epping Forrest
Where?! It straddles the border between London and Essex and is super easy to get to from London.
If you’re a trail runner, this is the one for you with some of the best routes within London. There are a number of well marked trails for you to explore, but given the size of the forest we’d recommend plotting out your running route beforehand.

4. Regent’s Park
With panoramic views, stunning gardens, impressive architecture and even the London Zoo, Regent’s Park has it all.
We’d recommend using the park’s outer circumference for your running route, which is just shy of 5km, before nipping into the park and up Parliament Hill. This will leave you at around 6.5km (if you’re feeling adventurous!)
5. Clissold Park
Clissold Park is located in Stoke Newington and, while small, this running route is full of character.
The park itself has a nice outer trail to protect your knees and a picturesque pond in the centre to distract your eyes. However, it’s the running route from the park which is why it makes the list…The park houses a semi hidden path out via New River, which takes you through Finsbury Park and onto the abandoned railway line and eventually out to Alexandra Palace.
6. Victoria Park
Situated in the vibrant Hackney area, it offers a full loop of the park’s outer road which is just 4.3km so going that little bit extra will get you to the 5km mark. There is also a dirt track, for those looking to protect their knees.
Aside from the running itself, the area both in and around the park has a lot going for it. We’d suggest heading to the Pavilion Cafe, based in the southern corner of the park, for a post run coffee too.
7. Richmond Park
Another classic! Richmond Park has some of the best running routes in London. If you’re feeling adventurous you can attempt the 10k perimeter of the park, but if not, there are plenty more shorter routes to choose from.
You will meet deer, cyclists and a few rabbits along the way as well as seeing some epic views to the city. We’d recommend finishing your run on Richmond River or Pen Ponds Cafe in the park.
8. Regent’s Canal Path
The canal offers 15k of almost completely traffic free space through the heart & soul of London.
From the once industrial (now hip and alternative!) East End, past the grand mansions surrounding the park, to the tranquility of Little Venice, this is a classic London run.
We recommend you start your route at Limehouse Station.
